Two die in northern Nevada auto accidents

Separate single-vehicle accidents claimed the lives of two people on northern Nevada roadways over the weekend.

A Washoe County coroner's spokeswoman said Thomas Benjamin, 18, of Hungry Valley, was killed Sunday morning on Eagle Canyon Drive north of Sparks.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Alexsandra Mary Csitos, 19, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., was killed sometime early Saturday on U.S. Highway 50 on Lake Tahoe's east shore.

In the Sparks-area accident, sheriff's deputies said Benjamin was one of three occupants in a car that failed to negotiate a curve in Spanish Springs Valley.

The car struck a guardrail and rolled over at least twice, ejecting Benjamin, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Christine M. Norwest, 20, of Reno, was listed in serious and stable condition at Washoe Medical Center. Another passenger, Billy Imus, 17, of Reno, was treated and released from the hospital.

Deputies said speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. No charges were immediately filed.

In the Tahoe accident, the NHP said details were sketchy, but Csitos died after her car went off the highway at a sharp curve in the Cave Rock area.

Her car became airborne and struck power lines, a parked boat and a tree, troopers said. The car was found 150 feet down an embankment.
