Stars game details

Rob Deer, who hit 14 home runs in 64 games with the Stars last season, could be returning to Las Vegas, according to sources with the San Diego Padres. Deer, who asked for his release earlier this spring when he did not make the Padres' big-league roster, apparently has reconsidered and is willing to accept a minor-league assignment and play in Las Vegas. Deer and the Padres are expected to talk today. ... The Padres on Wednesday called up pitcher Tim Worrell and sent outfielder Todd Steverson to the Stars. Technically, Worrell had been on the Stars' roster although he remained with the Padres until they sent down Steverson. Steverson, a former first-round draft choice by the Toronto Blue Jays (the second pick in 1992), was obtained by the Detroit Tigers in the Rule 5 draft in 1994, then acquired by the Padres last month in the trade that sent Melvin Nieves to Detroit. ... The Stars activated right-hander Mike Oquist from the disabled list Wednesday and sent infielder Julio Bruno to double-A Memphis. Bruno had one hit and one RBI in three at-bats with the Stars.
