Third Foxwoods Dealer Arrested In Alleged Casino Scam

Joseph Luz, 34, of Westerly, R.I., a former dealer at the casino, was charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, state police said.

Luz, the third dealer charged in the ruse, turned himself in to state police in Montville on Thursday. Police said the charges stemmed from a lengthy investigation that is continuing.

Authorities said blackjack dealers allegedly took part in a "capping" scam, allowing players to add to their bets after the last cards were dealt in order to boost their winnings.

Unidentified police sources told The Day of New London the alleged capping scam was orchestrated by Massachusetts mobsters.

Thus far, two players and three dealers have been charged. The dealers have been charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny. The players were charged with third- and fourth-degree larceny.

Luz was being held on $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on April 25.
