Stars have day off after Buzz sweeps

SALT LAKE CITY -- Todd Walker belted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday night to lift the Salt Lake Buzz to a 2-1 victory and a four-game sweep over the Las Vegas Stars.

Walker's home run, off Las Vegas reliever Dustin Hermanson (0-2), dropped the Stars to 3-8 on the season. Las Vegas scored only six runs in the four-game series at Franklin Quest Field.

The Stars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a one-out double by Sean Mulligan and a run-scoring fielder's choice by Luis Lopez.

Scott Lewis, who shut out the Buzz on one hit through four innings, gave up the tying run in the fifth on an RBI single by Steve Hazlett. Lewis, who was not involved in the decision, allowed only one run on five hits and struck out four in six innings.

Salt Lake starter Travis Miller gave up one run on seven hits, walked one and struck out 10 in six innings, but left with the score tied 1-1.

Kevin Legault (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Buzz and was credited with the win. Mike Milchin retired the Stars in order in the ninth to log his second save.

The Stars have a day off today and open a four-game series in Tacoma Thursday night.
