Soprano to join Henderson Civic Symphony in concert

Soprano Yunah Lee, a young artist at the Juilliard Conservatory, will be the featured soloist in concert with the Henderson Civic Symphony at 3 p.m. April 28 at the Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., in Henderson.

Arthur Bartner, director of the USC Trojan Band, will share the podium with Symphony Director Mark Laycock in a program featuring works by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Puccini, Lehar, Gounod and Johann Strauss Jr.

A pre-concert discussion moderated by David Green, librarian at the Las Vegas Academy, will begin at 2 p.m.

For her program, Lee has chosen a variety of arias. Two Puccini favorites, "O Mio Babbino Caro" from "Gianni Schicchi" and "Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi," from "La Boheme" will be performed. Lee will also sing selections by Lehar ("Vilia" from "The Merry Widow"), Johann Strauss Jr. ("Laughing Song" from "Die Fledermaus") and Gounod ("Ah! Je Veux Vivre" from "Romeo and Juliet").

The concert will also feature the overture of contemporary Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich and the Second Symphony of Beethoven.
