Variety Club presents Sunshine Coach

The Las Vegas Variety Club has presented Opportunity Village with a 15-seat van as part of the Sunshine Coach program.

The program, founded in Great Britain in 1962, has given away more than 6,000 vans.

Linda Smith, development director of Opportunity Village, said the vehicle would be used to transport its clients to job sites and recreational events. Opportunity Village currently serves 350 people with disabilities.

"It's great and exciting to have this van," Smith said. "We are in dire need of more multi-person transportation. We hope this will continue to be a long-lasting relationship with Variety Club."

The charity organization will be moving into office space at Opportunity Village next month, Smith said.

The Variety Club of Southern Nevada Tent 39 supports children's needs. Its two major projects are the Variety School for Special Education and the Variety Day Home. Both schools have a Sunshine Coach.
