Starks takes Sunrise tourney

MIKE STARKS (Painted Desert) emerged victorious with a 2-under-par 70 in the John Suveges La Mode Pro-Pro last week at Sunrise Country Club. In second place at 71 and obviously out of semi-retirement was O.B. Sports Director of Golf Ed Francese. Third spot was garnered by the Legacy's Joe Lescenski with 74.

Starks and Dave Barnhart (Legacy) won the best-ball of twosome with 68. Lescenski and Eric Clark (Angel Park) were second at 69, while Francese-Phil Green (Angel Park) Chris Aune-Eric Eubanks (Legacy), Joe Roth-Ken Wright (Canyon Gate) and Shane Sanchez (Palm Valley)-Sean Casnett (Eagle Crest) shared third with 70s.

Chris Aune, on the strength of a sudden death playoff victory over Eric Eubanks in an Arizona Open qualifying tournament, will be our local chapter's representative.

The five men's professional golf tours comprising the Forum of World Tours -- the PGA Tour, PGA European Tour, Australian PGA Tour, PGA Tour of Japan and the South African FNB Tour -- have agree to establish the World PGA Tours money list.

The list will use the Dow Jones currency exchange rate published each Monday to convert international currency to the U.S. dollars.

Earnings from each tour's official money events will be used to compile the World PGA Tours money list of the world's top 200 money winners.

Dave Barnhart (Legacy) and John Sunstrum (Painted Desert) shared the top spot with 1-under 71s at the Painted Desert Pro-Pro.

Dick Johnson (Green Valley Driving Range) placed third at 72 while Scott Greer and Bill Farkas (LVCC) tied for fourth place with 73s.

Farkas also won the Senior Division with his 1-over 73, followed by Spanish Trail's Jerry Roberts at 76 and Lloyd Harris of Kingman, Ariz. with 78.

In the team segment, Barnhart and Rich Fite (LV Hilton), along with Sunstrum and Mike Starks (Painted Desert), shared the honors in the best-ball of twosome, coming in with 6-under 66s. Joe Lescenski (Legacy) and Kim Dolan (LVCC) were third with 71.

Mike Starks of Painted Desert, with 93 points, tops the Las Vegas Chapter Southwest Section of the PGA Player of the Year points standings.

Eric Eubanks (Legacy) is next with 67. Rounding out the top five are Joe Lescenski with 57, Shane Sanchez (Palm Valley) with 43 and Dave Barnhart (Legacy) with 40.
