Board recommends against reinstating Binion’s license

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The State Gaming Control Board unanimously recommended today that Lonnie "Ted" Binion -- 19 percent owner of the Horseshoe Club -- not be reinstated to the casino industry.

Board members said Binion failed to prove he had not used drugs as required by a previous agreement.

Board Chairman Bill Bible said Binion tested positive four times on hair tests.

The Nevada Gaming Commission is set to meet Monday in Las Vegas to act on the board's recommendation.

Attorneys for Binion claim the hair testing was not conclusive. They said urine tests indicated Binion was drug free.

Board member Brian Harris indicated a new complaint may be filed against Binion soon. Harris said Binion has violated other regulations as well.

"I don't think he is suitable to be a licensee," Harris said. But he added that will be decided in the future in another case.
