Firefighters putting out a brush fire on South Valley View Boulevard discovered a vagrant's body, authorities said.
Clark County firefighters were called to a grass fire at 5010 S. Valley View at 9:39 p.m. Sunday and discovered a body seven minutes later, fire department spokesman Bob Leinbach said. The area is near the Tropicana Avenue flood control channel.
Firefighters found a rock with blood on it about three feet from the man's body, Leinbach said. The victim was believed to be a vagrant who had been living in the area, he said.
The coroner's office is attempting to identify the man from fingerprints, a spokeswoman said.
The case was referred to Metro Police homicide detectives for investigation.
