Singer to Receive Liberace Award

The award will be presented to Minnelli on May 22 during her opening night performance at Bally's Las Vegas.

The award is presented annually by the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. The foundation was established by the late entertainer to fund scholarships in the arts and music at colleges and universities across America.

Minnelli, winner of three Tony Awards, an Oscar, two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy, was described by foundation spokesman Jamie James as "one of the entertainment world's consummate performers."

Previous recipients of the award have been singer-actress Debbie Reynolds and illusionists Siegfried and Roy.

Liberace, who gained stardom in Las Vegas, had a showplace home here. He established the Liberace Museum, which has been a major funding arm of the foundation.

Liberace died in 1987.
