Obituaries for January 27, 1998

John Denzil Alexander, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Missouri. A resident for 19 years, he was an attorney and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Alexander and Roger Alexander; one brother, Ray Alexander; and two sisters, Helen Myer and Pat Hotchkiss.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

MORRIS V. 'TED' BELL

Morris V. "Ted" Bell, 76, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 9, 1921, in Hillman, Mich. A resident for 47 years, he was a retired iron worker and a member of Iron Workers Local 433 for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita; two sons, Darvel Bell of Pahrump and Ray Bell of Las Vegas; two daughters, Darlene Hagewood and Linda Bell, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Wanda Ruppert of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Cheyenne. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens.

JUNE M. BENTLEY

June M. Bentley, 78, of Henderson died Friday in a local hospital. She was born June 3, 1919, in Chicago. A resident for eight years, she was a retired medical secretary.

She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Obiala of Overland Park, Kan., and Bette Krizewicz of Las Vegas; three brothers, Quentin Kelso of Nashville, Tenn., Donald Kelso of Orlando, Fla., and Vernon Kelso of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Blanche L. Blalock, 92, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born June 12, 1905, in McKamie, Ark. A resident for 29 years, she was retired and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Louise B. Murry Washington of Las Vegas; one brother, Daniel Martin, and one sister, Ada Hill, both of Texarkana, Ark.; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

CELESTER BELL 'PREACHER' CHARLES

Celester Bell "Preacher" Charles, 83, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 28, 1914, in Yorktown, Ark. A resident for 12 years, he was a retired farmer.

He is survived by 11 daughters, Maxine Charles of Milwaukee, Maggie Lee Sims of Star City, Ark., Martha Donaldson of Chicago, Josephine McCauley, Alzenia Walls, Doris Charles, Naomi Powell and Linda Jackson, all of Las Vegas, Pearlie Mae Wedlow of Saginaw, Mich., Nettie Brown and Janice Beasley, both of North Las Vegas; five sons, Sylvester Charles of Independence, Mo., Isaiah Charles Sr. of North Las Vegas, James Edward Charles and Anthony Maurice Charles, both of Las Vegas, and Kenneth Ray Charles of Jacksonville, Ark.; 72 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Larry Michael Foote, 42, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 13, 1955, in Texas. A two-year resident, he was an iron worker.

He is survived by his wife, Teri; three sons, Andrew, Gary and Daniel; his father, L. Milford Foote of Las Vegas; and his mother, Nelda of Texas.

Lee Porter Green, 71, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Mississippi. A resident for 43 years, he was a maintenance man for a home builder.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; four sons, Robert Green of Mississippi, Lee Porter Green Jr. and Tommy Green, both of Las Vegas, and Don Edward Green of Blackfoot, Idaho; two daughters, Shirley Heckard and Connie Frances Green, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Lester Clark of Las Vegas and Cannonball Green of Mississippi; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. Friday in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Lord Jesus. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

Robert Hamous, 66, of Las Vegas died Dec. 15 in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1931.

Esther Aileen Haugen, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Puyallup, Wash. A resident for 29 years, she was an elementary school teacher for the Clark County School District.

She is survived by two sons, David Haugen and Douglas Haugen, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Magda Lipoma of California and Helen Fork and Bernice Kleinschmidt, both of Washington state; one brother, Arthur Sivertson of Washington state; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Friday in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

FLORENCE IRENE HOFF

Florence Irene Hoff, 93, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. A resident for 28 years, she was born April 1, 1904, in Osceola Township, Wis.

She is survived by one daughter, Ann Balogh of Las Vegas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Shirley Lang, 65, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 2, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 18 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Neva Lang of Monterey, Calif.; two sons, Steven Lang of Las Vegas and Laurence Lang of Fort Riley, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Johnnie Faye McHenry, 48, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Fordyce, Ark. A resident for 36 years, she was a waitress.

She is survived by one daughter, Josette Williams Holmes, one son, Joseph Jabbar T. Williams, her mother, Katie McHenry, and two brothers, Kevin McHenry and Eric McHenry, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in New Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Clare A. McLean, 86, of Boulder City died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born April 3, 1911, in Scranton, Pa. A resident for 21 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Harry L.; one daughter, Barbara West of White Plains, N.Y.; one son, Michael McLean of Rensselaer, N.Y.; one brother, Dr. Harry Rainey of Clarks Summit, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Arthur P. Murphy, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Portland, Ore. A resident for five years, he was a retired law enforcement investigator, a World War II Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, past president of Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in Honolulu, founder of Clan Nagael in Honolulu, a member of the Elks Lodge of Las Vegas, International Footprint Association, Fleet Reserve Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Honolulu.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Sharron Murphy and one son, Michael Murphy, both of Las Vegas.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Marjorie Ozzanto, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1915, in Downer Grove, Ill. A resident for 30 years, she was a retired special education teacher for the Clark County School District and a retired Navy lieutenant and World War II veteran.

He is survived by one son, Lawrence Casey of Reno; and two sisters, Jean Orr of Pioche and Eleanor Thompson of Sacramento.

Charles Dwayne Rivest, 58, of Las Vegas died Jan. 18 in Las Vegas. He was born July 10, 1939, in Wisconsin. A 10-year resident, he was a conventioneer carpenter, an Air Force veteran and a member of Teamsters Local 631.

He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Johnson; and three brothers, Vaughn Johnson, George Johnson and Peter Johnson.

Ruth C. Seifert, 78, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local health care center. She was born Jan. 16, 1920, in St. Louis. A resident for 26 years, she was a retired 15-year bookkeeper at the Sahara hotel-casino and a member of the Blue Army at St. Viator Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Carroll of Las Vegas; one daughter, Sherron A. Brinker of San Diego; and four grandchildren.

A resident for nine years, he was an electrical technician in the aerospace industry, a World War II decorated Navy veteran, a member of Tujunga Masonic Lodge 5921, Scottish Rite, York Rite Bodies, Shriners, Fleet Reserve and the Naval Reserve.
