Obituaries for May 28, 1998

Robert Birchum, 71, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Austin, Texas. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired carpenter of 50 years and a member of Carpenters Local 1780.

He is survived by one brother, Bert Charley of Meadow Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Albina Redner of Blue Lake, Calif., and Barbara Burton of Battle Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the First Congregational Church, 1200 N. Eastern Ave. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2121 Western Ave., Suite A-3, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

LAWRENCE D. BRACKEN

Lawrence D. Bracken, 89, of Henderson died Monday in a local care center. He was born Sept. 12, 1908, in Warrensburg, Mo. A resident for two years, he was a retired electrical engineer.

He is survived by one daughter, Leta G. Waters of Henderson; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

The family suggests contributions to the donor's favorite charity.

BELINDA 'BILLIE' CORDEIRO

Belinda "Billie" Cordeiro, 47, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 1, 1950, in Honolulu. A resident for eight years, she was a hotel room reservation supervisor.

She is survived by her husband, Bert; one son, Bert Cordeiro Jr., and one daughter, Barbara Maynes, both of Las Vegas; her mother, Barbara Carlos, two brothers, Alan Carlos and James Carlos Jr., and two sisters, Diane Generalao and Linda Jacintho, all of Hawaii; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon until 1 p.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

ALICE MAY GIBBS

Alice May Gibbs, 63, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born Dec. 31, 1934, in West Virginia. A resident for 35 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon Jr.; six sons, Red Gibbs, Tager Gibbs, Jim Gibbs, Tony Gibbs and Eric Gibbs, all of Henderson, and Bob Gibbs of California; four daughters, Allene Vassar, Pamela Brimhall, Patty Mazner and Tiffany Gibbs, all of Henderson; three brothers, James Harmon and Robert Harmon, both of Florida, and Roger Harmon of Henderson; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 8-11:30 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church, Henderson. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

RUTH KATHLEEN HANCOCK

Ruth Kathleen Hancock, 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born April 19, 1915, in Altamont, Mo. A resident for 34 years, she was a retired insurance secretary.

A memorial service will be 5 p.m. today in Capri Mobile Park Club Room, 3158 S. Arville St. Burial will be private. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

RICHARD W. HART

Richard W. Hart, 73, of Boulder City died Saturday in a local care center. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in St. Louis. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired vice president of engineering at the international division of Kaiser Engineers, spent 30 years overseas in India, South America, West Indies and Indonesia, was involved in Boulder City government and owned Silver State Pools and Spas.

He is survived by one son, Richard Hart II of Boulder City; two daughters, Sharon Chackel of Tucson, Ariz., and Maureen Markman of Henderson; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass was scheduled at 10 a.m. today in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., handled arrangements.

MICHAEL ALAN HUGUS

Michael Alan Hugus, 35, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 17, 1962, in Portsmouth, Va. A resident for one year, he was a hotel desk clerk.

He is survived by his mother, Charlene Hugus, and one brother, Rob Hugus, both of Germantown, Wis.; and his grandmother and step-grandfather, Bernice and Glenn Gottheld of Palm Coast, Fla.

Visitation was scheduled 2-5 p.m. today with a 3:30 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

CONCIE LEE MURRAY

Concie Lee Murray, 60, of North Las Vegas died May 21 in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 24, 1937, in Altheimer, Kan. A resident for more than 40 years, he was an auto mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Jerlene; three sons, Patrick Murray, Michael Murray and Albert Tyrone Murray, all of North Las Vegas; three brothers, Cleodis Murray, Larry H. Murray and Alfred Murray, and six sisters, Bertha Roberson, Magalene Daniels, Betty Hudson Williams, Shirley Macklin-Meeks, Betty Gilmore-Adams and Peggy Murray, all of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 12:30-3 p.m. Friday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Friday in the Goodwill Church of God in Christ, 976 Hassell Ave., North Las Vegas. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, 1117 N. F St. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

PABLO ROIG

Pablo Roig, 17, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 6, 1981, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 11 years, he was a Cheyenne High School student.

He is survived by his parents, Rose Marie and Charles V. Traina, one brother, Vincent J. Traina, and one sister, Lisa Marie Capezza, all of Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Irma and Pablo Roig III of Puerto Rico.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in Davis Funeral Home.

JULE L. SEARLES

Jule L. Searles, 81, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Woodinville, Wash. A resident for three months, he was a retired chemical engineer for a petroleum company, a member of the Rock & Gem Club of Seattle and the Masonic Order of Seattle.

He is survived by one daughter, Diana Stager of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

BOOKER EUGENE ZACHRY

Booker Eugene Zachry, 75, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Ben Lomond, Ark. A resident for 13 years, he was an auto mechanic and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Viola D.; two sons, Gerald Zachry of Las Vegas and Phillip Zachry of Mohave Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter, Christina Hansen of Henderson; one brother, Curtis Zachry, and two sisters, Mildred Cowling and Troy Leathers, all of Ashdown, Ark.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements.

HAROLD 'HERSHEY' ZELINSKY

Harold "Hershey" Zelinsky, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born July 31, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio. A resident for 50 years, he was a restaurant manager and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by one cousin, Sharon Clapfish of Las Vegas.

Visitation is private. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.
