LVCVA official in Chicago dies

The head of the six-person Midwest regional sales office of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority in Chicago has died of complications of diabetes.

Patricia Ann Carroll, 57, worked for 11 years with the LVCVA after spending 16 years with the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau.

The LVCVA maintains offices in Chicago and Washington D.C. and offices outside the United States to cultivate the lucrative meetings market.

After graduating from high school, Carroll spent four years in a convent and was a novice in the order of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wheaton, Ill., and Canada.

She began her career in the travel and hospitality industry as a reservation agent with American Airlines and was one of the first women to enroll in a management training program.

Carroll died in her North Side Chicago home and is survived by four brothers.
