YERINGTON, Nev. - A truck accident resulting in the spill of sulfuric acid closed U.S. 95-Alternate north of Yerington for much of the day Tuesday.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Patrick McGill said accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. when a tanker truck hauling sulfuric acid apparently rear-ended another semi truck.

The tanker then went up an embankment and overturned, McGill said.

The driver and a passenger were taken to a hospital in Yerington for undisclosed injuries. No one else was hurt.

Traffic to and from Yerington was detoured either through Smith Valley and Minden south of Carson City or to Fallon on U.S. 95.

A hazardous materials team was called to the scene to clean up the spill.

The NHP was investigating.
