Jose A. Alvarez

Jose A. Alvarez, 20, of North Las Vegas died Thursday in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 2, 1981, in Omaha, Neb. A resident for three years, he was a house painter.

He is survived by his mother, Rosalva Padilla Beserra; his father, Armando Alvarez Jimenez; one brother, Ignacio Alvarez; three sisters, Monica Alvarez, Alma Alvarez and Estela Alvarez; and his grandparents, Estela Jimenez and Ignacio Alvarez.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling private arrangements in Mexico.

Thomas Chester Barton

Thomas Chester Barton, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A casino porter, he was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Missouri.

He is survived by his parents, Chester and Angeline Barton of St. Charles, Mo.

Services will be in St. Charles. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Harold Patrick Bethel

Harold Patrick Bethel, 73, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1929, in the Bronx, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, he retired in 1977 as a New York City Police lieutenant, was a Korean War Army veteran, a member of the 10-13 Club (retired NYPD Officers) and retired in 1995 from the Clark County court system.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn A.; four daughters, Stephanie Bethel, Susan L. Bethel and Jennifer B. Lauper, all of Las Vegas, and Cynthia Lindell of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Bethel and Ruth Gloster, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Walter J. Bethel of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Graveside services will follow at noon Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

The family suggests donations to Cardinal Hayes High School, Alumni Association, 650 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10451.

Julio Victor Boltes

Julio Victor Boltes, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Rochester, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, he was a diesel mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Eileen Rose and Mary Elizabeth Boltes, both of New York; three sons, Victor Edward of Texas, John King of South Carolina and Julio Boltes Jr. of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Lisa Shields and one stepson, Dan Grantinetti, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Gloria Duff of Buffalo, N.Y., and Mary Alvarez of Florida; and one stepbrother, Dean Grantinetti of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Douglas 'Paul' Boyd

Douglas "Paul" Boyd, 71, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. He was born April 14, 1931, in Florida. A resident for five years, he was a retired salesman for Home Depot.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Richard and Gary; one daughter, Juanita LaPlant; one sister, Marie Street; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is arranging private services.

LeRoy Burkes Jr.

LeRoy Burkes Jr., 54, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born July 29, 1948, in Newellton, La. A resident for 38 years, he was a butcher at a grocery store.

He is survived by his wife, Lovie S. four daughters, Triena Regan, Ivy Sanders, Cynthia Sanders and Tekehia Sanders, one son, Steve J. Regan, one brother, Clark Burkes, and one sister, Marsha Burkes, all of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11 a.m. service Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Ismael Castanon

Ismael Castanon, 73, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born June 17, 1929, in Havana. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired hotel banquet waiter and a member of the Culinary Union.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen; two sons, Luis Castanon of Las Vegas and Tony Castanon of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Rosa Castanon and Concepcion Castanon, both of Miami; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5 p.m. until a 7 p.m. service Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Cassandra Graves

Cassandra Graves, 35, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1966, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was disabled.

She is survived by her husband, Charles J.; one daughter, Cherish Graves, and one sister, Helena Moore, both of Las Vegas; and her mother, Georgia Lee Cooper of North Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 1-8 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be noon Friday in Portals to Glory Church of God in Christ, 2301 Comstock Drive. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Thomas L. Holcomb Sr.

Thomas L. Holcomb Sr., 78, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 17, 1923. A resident for five years, he was a factory worker.

He is survived by one son, Thomas L. Holcomb Jr. of Sterling, Ill.; four daughters, Ruby L. Pashon of Las Vegas, Sheila Insley and Rosetta Goodwin, both of Rock Falls, Ill., and Shirley Adams of Sterling; one sister, Mary Holcomb; one half-sister, Carol Miller, and one half-brother, Clifford Ennis, both of Rock Falls; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Albert Norris Jones Sr.

Albert Norris Jones Sr., 71, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Flint, Mich. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired baggage handler and a member of the Lions Club and the Boxing Association of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Maudie Wallace of Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia Taylor and Peggy Johnson, both of Flint, Mich., and Marlena Jones of Tampa; one son, Albert N. Jones Jr. of Las Vegas; one sister, Doris Nunn of Flint; five brothers, Lee W. Jones Jr. of Ann Arbor, Mich., Monroe Jones of Pittsburgh, Warnner Jones of San Francisco, Charles Jones Sr. of Las Vegas and Elston Wright of Flint; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Don Knutson

Don Knutson, 73, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Iowa. A resident for 48 years, he was a master cabinetmaker and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Joe; one son, Robin; two daughters, Dara and Jaye; two brothers, Allen and Roy; one sister, Sandy; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Ava Maria Lomonaco

Ava Maria Lomonaco, 38, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 11, 1964, in Queens, N.Y. A resident for 16 years, she cleaned airplanes.

She is survived by her mother, Aira Calogero, and one brother, Joseph Leo Christopher Calogero, both of Las Vegas.

James Madden Jr.

James Madden Jr., 67, of Las Vegas died Aug. 4 in Las Vegas. He was born June 5, 1935, in Missouri. A resident for five years, he was a laborer in the construction industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Angela Frierson and Tiffany Madden, both of Chicago; two sons, James Madden III of Las Vegas and Wayne D. Madden of Chicago; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 2:30 p.m. today in the Mountain View Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6001 W. Oakey Blvd. Burial will be 9:20 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements.

Fred Lanier Martin

Fred Lanier Martin, 68, of Las Vegas died Aug. 6 in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 28, 1933, in Colorado. A resident for three months, he was a supervisor for an aircraft company and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Hildegard; one daughter, Doris; four brothers, Virgil, George, Alfred and Frank; four sisters, Alene, Hazel, Helen and Joyce; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 12:40 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Donald G. McKay

Donald G. McKay, 75, of Boulder City died Thursday in Boulder City. He was born March 30, 1927, in Wichita, Kan. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired government electrician and a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Candace; one son, Alan McKay of Reno; two brothers, Wallace McKay of Mukilteo, Wash., and Robert McKay of California; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Francis Morano

Francis Morano, 68, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. A former truck and bus driver and a Korean War Army veteran, he was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J.

Cornelis 'Cor' Mossel

Cornelis "Cor" Mossel, 76, of North Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Magelang, Indonesia. A resident for five years, he was a retired machinist in the aerospace industry.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrix; three sons, Peter Mossel of Riverside, Calif., David Mossel of Corona, Calif., and Paul Mossel of Buena Park, Calif.; one sister, Els Gelders of Australia; and four grandchildren.

Laura Rader

Laura Rader, 33, of Pahrump died Friday in a local hospital. She was born March 20, 1969, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. A resident for 23 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Niles; six sons, Peter Price Duran and James Price, both of Las Vegas and Steve Price, Fernando Price, Mathew L. Rader and Niles Rader III, all of Pahrump; her parents, Peter and Karen Duran, and one sister, Mary K. Duran, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, Peter Duran Jr., of Las Vegas, Robert Duran of Spokane, Wash., and Joseph Duran of Arizona; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1-7 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

James Coleman Stephens

James Coleman Stephens, 79, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 6, 1923, in Bandera County, Texas. A resident for 40 years, he was a mechanic at Gaudin Ford and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Cleta; two sons, Larry Stephens of Las Vegas and James Stephens of Boulder City; one brother, Ray Stephens of New Mexico; four sisters, Ann Miller and Opal Ryan, both of New Mexico, Alice George of Arkansas and Laverne Miller of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William E. Tishey

William E. Tishey, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. A resident for 14 years, he was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Chicago.

He is survived by one daughter, Dianne Dobbins of Carpinteria, Calif.; one brother, Bob Tishey of California; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
