VegasBeat — Timothy McDarrah: Stern to bring Rock show to Palms

Will shock jock Howard Stern return to Las Vegas for his annual winter gig?

For the last couple of years, Stern and his crew have broadcast a week from the Hard Rock Hotel. But when he wrapped up his stint there in April, Stern refused to commit to future engagements, despite the fact the hotel was waving a lot of money in front of him.

Sources inside the Palms say that Stern will likely do a week from inside Rain in the Desert in late winter.

Stern and George Maloof reportedly discussed the plan off the air when the Maloofs were on Stern's radio show a few weeks back.

Birthday boy

Rich Little was not doing an impression -- he really was surprised when he walked into Bertolini's restaurant on West Sahara Avenue on Sunday and saw 100 people there to celebrate his 65th birthday.

Among the revelers who took the microphone to serenade Little with a chorus of "Happy Birthday:" Frank Scinta, Clint Holmes, Frankie Randall, Vince Falcone, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, Bill Acosta, Dennis Bono and online columnist Norm Johnson.

Poker game

For viewers who are repelled by the incessant Super Bowl pre-game shows, NBC is offering an interesting alternative -- a poker tourney at Bellagio.

NBC is teaming with the Travel Channel and the World Poker Tour for the Feb. 1 broadcast, hosted by Vince Van Patten.

"There are enormous numbers of people at home and at parties looking for something entertaining to watch before the Super Bowl," NBC programming veep Jon Miller said.

Participants are scheduled to include Howard Lederer, Gus Hansen and Alan Goehring.

The football game airs on CBS, from Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Cookin' good

On Friday the Epicurean Club of Las Vegas is hosting its second annual scholarship fund-raising dinner at Paris Las Vegas.

Tickets are $300, but you will get to eat gourmet delicacies by some of the best chefs in the nation.

Among the cooks that evening will be Alex Stratta (Renoir) and Julian Serrano (Picasso), whose Bellagio eatery is a true destination restaurant, and Kerry Simon, whose Simon Kitchen and Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel was recently named by Esquire as one of the Best New Restaurants in the country.

Entertainment will be provided by The Platters, Cornell Gunter's Coasters, Beary Hobbs' Drifters and Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" gang.

Robin Leach and KTNV Channel 13 news anchor Cathy Ray host the event.

Campbell charged: Glen Campbell has been charged with assault and drunken driving in a hit-and-run collision near his Phoenix home last month.

Campbell was formally charged with aggravated assault, drunken driving, extreme drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident, the Maricopa County attorney's office said Tuesday.

The criminal complaint was filed last week against Campbell, 67, who was arrested Nov. 24 at his home after he allegedly struck another car and left the scene. Nobody was hurt.

Extreme drunken driving applies to a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent or higher. Breath tests on Campbell showed he had a 0.20 blood-alcohol level, according to court documents. The legal limit for Arizona drivers is 0.08 percent.

While in custody, police said Campbell became angry and kneed an officer, who was not injured. He was freed on $2,000 bail.

The 67-year-old singer apologized last week and blamed the arrest on the accidental mixing of alcohol and a prescription anti-anxiety drug.

Charles recovers: Ray Charles is recovering in his Beverly Hills, Calif., home after undergoing a hip replacement last week.

Acute discomfort in his left hip forced the 73-year-old singer in August to cancel his remaining 2003 tour dates. It was the first time Charles had canceled a tour in 53 years.

Manager sues 'Bachelorette' bride: Something borrowed, something blue -- and a lawsuit, too, for bride-to-be Trista Rehn of ABC's "Bachelorette."

Rehn's former manager, Kevin Allyn, is suing for a cut of the $1 million fee he said he negotiated from ABC to air her wedding to Ryan Sutter, "Entertainment Tonight" reported Tuesday.

The suit contending he's owed 20 percent of the fee, $200,000, was filed Nov. 19 in Superior Court in Los Angeles, the news magazine reported.

Gephardt with Leno: Democratic presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt appeared on NBC's "Tonight" show Tuesday night and said he has a problem celebrities might envy sometimes -- he has a hard time getting recognized in public.

Gephardt, a Democratic congressman from Missouri, told host Jay Leno he was recently approached in a Texas airport by a man who thought he was his insurance agent and by women in St. Louis who thought he was either a weatherman on CNN or Dan Quayle.
