Shirley A. Balent

Shirley A. Balent, 61, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. A retired laborer in the automotive industry, she was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Monroe, Mich.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C.; two sons, Anthony Balent of Monroe and Ronnie Thompson of Las Vegas; one sister, Betty Britten of Britton, Mich.; and six grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church. Affordable Cremation & Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., handled arrangement.

Vernon Betts

Vernon Betts, 35, of Henderson died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 4, 1967, in Wheat Ridge, Okla. A resident for eight years, he owned a a tree-trimming business.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Ann; one son, Spencer Betts, one stepdaughter, Katie Manion, and his mother and stepfather, Janet and Darryl Graves, all of Henderson; and his father and stepmother, Thomas and Charlette Betts of Erie, Colo.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Julia Mary Carbone

Julia Mary Carbone, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Paterson, N.J. A resident for eight years, she was a retired seamstress.

She is survived by two sons, Silvio Carbone of Las Vegas and James V. Carbone of Pahrump.

Visitation is scheduled noon-4 p.m. Sunday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Joe Culverson Jr.

Joe Culverson Jr., 52, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born April 16, 1951, in Pioneer, La. A resident for 28 years, he was a bartender.

He is survived by his wife, Nora; five daughters, Lisa S. Culverson and Cheiquwak L. Culverson-Hobbs of Las Vegas, and Lynn R. Williams, Deisha R. Culverson and Ariel Culverson, all of North Las Vegas; one son, Joe Culverson III of Las Vegas; his mother, Elsie Culverson, and four brothers, Samuel Culverson, Jeffrey Culverson, Paul Culverson and Monty Culverson, all of North Las Vegas; one sister, Glenda Victor of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Grace Immanuel Baptist Church, 805 W. Bartlett Ave., followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Adelina 'Irene' Durante

Adelina "Irene" Durante, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born July 2, 1921, in Raven Run, Pa. A resident for 20 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the women's craft group at Christ the King Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Durante of Las Vegas; three sons, Arthur M. Durante Jr. of Yucca Valley, Calif., and James P. Durante and Joseph M. Durante, both of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Marie A. Gagnon

Marie A. Gagnon, 51, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 13, 1951, in Corcoran, Calif. A resident for 22 years, she was a homemaker and a volunteer for the American Breast Cancer Society.

She is survived by her husband, Lee J.; one son, Christopher L. Gagnon, and one daughter, Lauren M. Gagnon, both of Las Vegas; her parents, Mary and Raymond Moreno, and one sister, Bridget Yates, all of Corcoran.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 3:30 p.m. service Friday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Thelma Johnson

Thelma Johnson, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 11, 1922, in Red Oak, Okla. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired cashier and a member of the Moose.

She is survived by her husband, Earl; two daughters, Jacqueline Diaz of Las Vegas and Sharon Lawless of Wells Point, Texas; nine grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Stefan F. Kroisenbacher

Stefan F. Kroisenbacher, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born May 27, 1927, in Austria. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired auto mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Chela; and one daughter, Janette Jones.

Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in Calvary Community Assembly, 2900 N. Torrey Pines Drive. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangement.

John Faris Lewis

John Faris Lewis, 85, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born March 21, 1918, in Washington, Pa. A resident for 27 years, he was a retired Air Force master sergeant and World War II and Korean War veteran, and recipient of the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Foula; one daughter, Linda Kollintzas of Munster, Ind.; one son, Paul Lewis of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Services will be 10:40 a.m. Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Mar D Lightner

Mar D Lightner, 65, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in St. George, Utah. A resident for 41 years, he was a retired welder and Navy veteran.

He is survived by four daughters, Tammra Lightner of Las Vegas, Nori Meyers of Prescott, Ariz., Kathryn Ensor of Baltimore and Susan Lightner of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one son, Michael Lightner of Redondo, Calif.; three brothers, John Lightner of Hickley, Utah, Jack Lightner of Cedar City, Utah, and Denzil Lightner of Palmdale, Calif.; one sister, Phyllis Wittwer of Alexandria, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Helen Irene Luzier

Helen Irene Luzier, 90, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Flora Vista, N.M. A resident for 73 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, C. Ron Luzier and Jimmie C. Luzier, both of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.

Robert Lynch

Robert Lynch, 77, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born May 29, 1926, in Los Angeles. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired sailboat manufacturer, a retired electronics representative, a refinery owner, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Coast Guard auxiliary for 20 years in Newport Beach, Calif., and a worker for the Republican Party.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorraine; one son, Robert Jr. of Laguna Hills, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Laura Ann Martin

Laura Ann Martin, 72, of Las Vegas died May 27 in North Las Vegas. She was born March 29, 1931, in Lexington, Miss. A resident for six years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Cordele Martin, and one daughter, Cassandra Martin, both of North Las Vegas; one sister, Mildred Spencer of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling private arrangements.

Edward Spitz

Edward Spitz, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Schenectady, N.Y. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired from the computer science field, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Jewish War Veterans Post 711 and the City of Hope and a veterans hospital volunteer.

He is survived by one son, Mark Spitz of Boston; two daughters, Sherri Schiff and Jacquie Klein, and his companion, Phyllis Schuster, all of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be noon today in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane, is handling arrangements.

Edgar Velasco

Edgar Velasco, 15, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Barstow, Calif. He was born April 7, 1988, in Mexico. A resident for seven years, he was a student.

He is survived by his parents, Ofelia and Alfredo Velasco, and six brothers, Alfredo Velasco Jr., Adan Velasco, Sergio Velasco, Ruben Velasco, Abel Velasco and Joel Velasco, all of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Elisa Velasco of Nampa, Idaho, and Isela Venegas of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Robert Asher Young Sr.

Robert Asher Young Sr., 76, of Henderson died. He was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Chama, N.M. A resident for 20 years, he was a mechanic and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Robert A. Young Jr. of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Gilbert Young of Blue Water, N.M.; two daughters, Dorothy B. Loe of Round Mountain and Bonnie M. Hubbord of Fort Defiance, Ariz.; one brother, Charles Young of St. Helens, Ore.; one sister, Maggie Hanens of Chromo, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Peter Anthony Zanola

Peter Anthony Zanola, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born March 19, 1922, in Chisholm, Minn. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired factory foreman.

He is survived by one daughter, Annette Zanola of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
