Military invited to Opportunity Village

Opportunity Village will host the All-American Barbecue from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at its campus, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., to show support for U.S. military and their families.

The event is free to all members of the military and their families stationed at Nellis Air Force Base and elsewhere who show a valid military identification.

The Fiber Arts Guild

will host its 2003 annual Fashion Show and Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Lawry's, 4043 Howard Hughes Parkway. The fashion show will feature one-of-a-kind creations. Admission is $25. For more information, call 254-5743.

North Las Vegas will dedicate its first desert demonstration gardens

at 9 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Civic Center Drive and Constitution Way. The ceremony is open to the public and attendees will receive a free plant and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 633-1175.

Campfires banned at Zion park

Zion National Park in Utah posted campfire and smoking restrictions on Monday because of extreme fire danger.

No campfires are allowed under the restrictions. Charcoal fires and stoves fueled by petroleum or liquid propane gas are allowed in campgrounds and picnic areas.

Smoking is forbidden on trails, and no fireworks are allowed.

The restrictions are effective immediately.

was selected to the advisory board of the recently completed U.S. Conference of Mayors at its conference in Denver.
