Letter: No ads on public property

Public lamp posts, traffic sign poles, traffic control boxes and many privately owned structures are no place for advertising signs. County ordinances make that clear. After I complained to Clark County Commissioner Mark James, I learned the county must catch the offending advertisers in the act before it can do anything.

I find it hard to believe that for-profit businesses may use and abuse property that is constructed and maintained with taxpayer money for their own use. It is not difficult to find offending businesses -- they put their names and numbers on the signs.

It is intolerable for taxpaying citizens to be required to pay the advertising costs of companies that believe they have the right to use public property for their personal gain.
