Hospital worker charged in theft

An employee of University Medical Center was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing rings off the fingers of a cancer patient last week, Metro Police said.

Licon allegedly told a female cancer patient on June 19 that she needed X-rays and she had to remove her rings, authorities said. When the victim refused, Licon allegedly pulled three rings off her fingers.

Hospital spokesman Dale Pugh said Licon was suspended earlier this week while an investigation is conducted, and his termination is pending.

Licon was employed by UMC for two years and worked as a radiologic services techinician. His duties included moving and positioning patients for X-rays.
