Mary M. Ackers

Mary M. Ackers, 74, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Wakpala, S.D. A resident for 47 years, she was a retired banquet waitress who served for 20 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane Matheny of Mesquite and Judy McJennet of Las Vegas; one son, Richard Ackers of Las Vegas; two brothers, Tony Keller of Spearfish, S.D., and Mike Keller of Mobridge, S.D.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4051 N. Cimarron Road. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Nancy L. Allen

Nancy L. Allen, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Griswold, Conn. A resident for nine years, she retired as a registered nurse after 25 years, was a member of the Desert Newcomers and Performing Arts Society of Nevada.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald Freeman and Leonard Freeman, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Carol Silva of Groton, Conn.; and two grandchildren.

Mary S. Almstead, 71, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Henderson. She was born May 16, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 24 years, she was a hotel-casino collection agent.

She is survived by her husband, William F.; one son, William J. Almstead of Chardon, Ohio; six brothers, Joseph Gluszak of Las Vegas and George Gluszak, Robert Gluszak, Frank Gluszak, Eugene Gluszak and John Gluszak, all of New York City; one sister, Anna Gluszak of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Debora Jean Alvey

Debora Jean Alvey, 49, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local health care center. She was born Oct. 16, 1953, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 20 years, she was a quality control representative for a car rental company.

She is survived by three sons, Steven Alvey of North Las Vegas, Scott Alvey of Salt Lake City and Jeremy Alvey of Henderson; her mother, Naomi Silver of Henderson; her father, Richard Adderly, two sisters, Kathy Webb and Lynda Ayala, and one brother, Troy Boone, all of Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren.

Lorine Baugh

Lorine Baugh, 72, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. She was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Dallas County, Ark. A resident for 50 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Baugh of Las Vegas and Joyce Marie Smith of Malvern, Ark.; two sons, L.C. Baugh Jr. and Bobbie L. Baugh, both of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Lindsay Beirdneau

Lindsay Beirdneau, 77, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 16, 1925, in Hollywood, Calif. A resident for three months, he was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Linda Beirdneau of Boulder City and Bobbie Sue Werly of El Dorado Canyon; two sons, Gary Beirdneau of Las Vegas and Donald Beirdneau of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday in Techatticup Mine, one mile past Nelson. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Charity M. Johnson Croft, 63, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Rayville, La. A resident for 32 years, she was a retired day care provider.

She is survived by four daughters, Vivian Lee of Saginaw, Mich., and LaVern Croft-Hughes, Gloria Croft and Linda Croft, all of Las Vegas; two sons, Kevin Croft and Hobert Croft, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Gwendolyn Croft of Los Angeles, Frankie Young of Union City, Calif., and Syrenthia Ward of Rauville, La.; two brothers, Cleveland McDonald of East Palo Alto, Calif., and Wilkins McDonald of Beaumont, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Edwin B. Dakay, M.D.

Edwin B. Dakay, M.D., 44, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born April 15, 1959, in Cebu City, Philippines. A resident for seven years, he was a psychiatrist, a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Filipino Bisayan Association of Southern Nevada and the Nevada Association of Psychiatric Physicians.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; three daughters, Katarina Dakay, Krysta Dakay and Kassandra Dakay, and one son, Edward Dakay, all of Las Vegas; his father, Eduardo Dakay of Cebu City; two sisters, Normita Briskorn of Buena Park, Calif., and Norine Siao of Cebu City; and one brother, Eric Dakay of Ontario, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Jessica Renee Korschinowski, 26, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 20, 1976, in Washington state. A resident for 10 years, she was a secretary.

She is survived by two sons, Dalton and Derek; two daughters, Dominque and Destiny; her parents, Hans and Linda Korschinowski; and three sisters, Traci, Carrie and Kimberly.

Gregorio Maldonado

Gregorio Maldonado, 76, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Mexico. A resident for 15 years, he was a farmer.

He is survived by four sons, Jose Alfredo, Jose Maldonado, Isidro Maldonado and Mario Maldonado; three daughters, Lucia Arroyo, Soledad Reyes and Guadalupe Reyes; two brothers, Genovevo Maldonado and Alberto Maldonado; three sisters, Christina Maldonado, Isidra Caraveo and Hilaria Padilla; 25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-5 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to a 10 a.m. service Friday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Francis T. Merrifield

Francis T. Merrifield, 77, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Worcester, Mass. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired Navy chief petty officer and World War II and Korean War veteran.

He is survived by two sons, John Donnelly of Long Beach, Calif., and Kenny Thorn of Sacramento; five daughters, Lisa Merrifield of Long Beach, Calif., Frances Theodosiou of Las Vegas, Evelyn Land of Cypress, Calif., Marilyn Gaither of Chesterfield, Mo., and Joann Erfourth of Boyne City, Mich.; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Garland L. Neilson, 82, of Henderson died Saturday in Henderson. He was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Washington, Utah. A resident of the area for 51 years, he was a retired iron and construction worker, and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen; sons, Alan Neilson of Henderson and Curtis Neilson of Las Vegas; daughter, Sharon Hicken, of Henderson; brother, Elwood, of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sid E. Petty

Sid E. Petty, 83, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Henderson. He was born March 13, 1920, in Brady, Texas. A resident for 27 years, he was a retired founder of Air Vegas Airlines, a World War II and Vietnam War Army veteran and a member of the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Jim Petty of Henderson and Robert Petty of California; one daughter, Margy Butterworth of California; 10 grandchildren; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 3-6 p.m. Wednesday with a service following at 6:30 p.m. in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Diane Prothero, 25, of North Las Vegas died Saturday. She was born Dec. 6, 1977, in Leesville, La. A resident for 14 years, she was a casino hostess.

She is survived by one daughter, Jaylin Ellis, and her parents, Donald and Chae Prothero, all of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Donald W. Prothero of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Frank W. Prothero of the U.S. Army in Yugoslavia.

Irene Alice Sagon, 84, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born April 4, 1919, in Honolulu. A resident for seven years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane Hunt of Highland, Calif., and Carole Manadik and Alberta Estacio, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Melvin Sagon of Las Vegas and Ronald Sagon of Hilo, Hawaii; one brother, John Angel Jr. of Honolulu; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Corinne K. Scarzone, 80, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. She was born July 17, 1922, in Indianapolis. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired factory worker.

She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Weaver of Milwaukee; three sons, John Scarzone and Ronald Scarzone, both of Chicago and Joseph Scarzone Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three brothers, Theodore Dixson of Cleveland, the Rev. Herbert Dixson of Flint, Mich., and Chester Dixson of Idlewild, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

John A. Starcevich, 85, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Pekin, Ill. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired sales representative for a food company, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Meagherr of Las Vegas and Colleen Martin of E. Peoria, Ill.; two sons, Dan Starcevich of New Salisbury, Ind., and John Starcevich Jr. of Millsboro, Del.; three sisters, Theresa Neville of Minier, Ill., Virginia Meagherr of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Kate Lang of Havana, Ill.; one brother, Charles Starcevich of Vero Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James W.; two sons, William A. Shubeck of Calimesa, Calif., and A. Lee Shubeck of Las Vegas; eight grandchildre; and eight great-grandchildren.

Carolynn C. Whiting, 41, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1961, in Canoga Park, Calif. A resident for 35 years, she was a bartender.

She is survived by one son, Paul C. Whiting, and her companion, Duane Huggins, both of Las Vegas; her father, Gunther Theilkuhl, and her mother and stepfather, Carolynn and Ray Ley, all of Pahrump.

Thomas Winkler, 80, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Centralia, Ill. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired home builder and World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by two sons, David Winkler of Las Vegas and Thomas Winkler Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; and one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Faydean Woods; and his adopted family, Abraham Zepeda of Mexico and San Diego.

John Zaharias, 56, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born April 8, 1947, in Tawas, Mich. A resident for 17 years, he was a casino supervisor.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Goolsby-Zaharias; one daughter, Kirsten Brown of Las Vegas; two sons, Jerry Zaharias of Riverside, Calif., and Donnie Zaharias of Henderson; three sisters, Dolares Tomlinson, Eldean McArdle and Carol Lee, all of Tawas; one brother, Richard Zaharias of Menominee, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
