Sierra Health Services Inc. of Las Vegas is protesting the U.S. Defense Department's decision to not award the managed-care insurer with a contract.
Sierra lost a bid to handle benefits for military families last month. Sierra met with Defense Department officials last week to discuss the evaluation process, the Las Vegas-based company said in a statement.
There were "serious and material errors" in the government's selection process, the company said in its statement. The Defense Department awarded regional contracts worth about $2 billion a year to Humana Inc., Health Net Inc. and closely held TriWest Healthcare Alliance Corp.
