Transportation bill earmarks $20 mil. for Southern Nevada

WASHINGTON -- The transportation spending bill approved in the House on Tuesday calls for about $20 million for projects in Southern Nevada including $15 million for the Las Vegas Monorail and $6 million for the Hoover Dam bypass project.

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., said the bill also includes their requests for $5.95 million for Double Decker Bus purchase, $4 million for Air Traffic Control Tower for McCarran International Airport and other projects.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved $75 million worth of projects for Nevada last week including $25 million for the Las Vegas monorail project, $5 million for widening the Las Vegas beltway and $7 million for the Hoover Dam bypass road under its version of the transporation spending bill. That legislation still needs approval by the full Senate.
