Murray Artman

Murray Artman, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 20, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 43 years, he was a retired salesman for a funeral home and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by four daughters, Joanne Artman of Laguna Beach, Calif., Julie Artman of Culver City, Calif., Linda Artman of Kihei, Hawaii, and Elana Artman of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Irwin Artman and Harry Artman, both of Ohio; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane. Graveside services will be in California.

Pachience Renee Cannon

Pachience Renee Cannon, 7, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. A Watson Elementary School student, she was born Oct. 11, 1995, in Tulsa, Okla.

She is survived by her father, Shawn Cannon of Sand Springs, Okla.; her mother, Melissa Messer, and her stepfather, Mike Peterson, both of North Las Vegas; her grandparents, Rex and Debi Villalobos of Beggs, Okla., and Glenda and Chris of Bixby, Okla.; and her great-grandparents, Beulah and Ollie Gillian of Clairmore, Okla., and Peggy and Hank Moydell of Tulsa, Okla.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 5 p.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Jones.

Joseph Samuel Cantarella

Joseph Samuel Cantarella, 81, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in New York. A resident for nine years, he was a business agent and organizer for the Teamsters Union, an Army veteran and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Rowena L.; three sons, Joe Jr., David and Doug; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ruth M. Cunningham

Ruth M. Cunningham, 82, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 12, 1921, in Michigan. A resident for 43 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, James Cunningham of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Fridolin J. 'Fred' Elsenhans

Fridolin J. "Fred" Elsenhans, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local health care center. He was born June 10, 1927, in Altdort, Switzerland. A resident for 49 years, he retired as a general manager from Centel after 30 years of service, was a Korean War Army veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge Nellis 46 and Zelzah Shrine Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Elinor; one daughter, Louise Carrell of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

John F. Estrada

John F. Estrada, 40, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 14, 1962, in Texas. A resident for nine years, he was a retail cashier.

He is survived by his wife, Margie; two daughters, Andrea Estrada and Alyssa Estrada, both of North Las Vegas; four brothers, Eleberto Estrada, Andres Estrada Jr. and Noel Estrada, all of California and Jesse Estrada of Las Vegas; three sisters, Mary Estrada of Las Vegas and Rebecca Estrada and Sarah Estrada, both of California; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled noon until a 6 p.m. service Wednesday in Garden Memorial Funeral Home, 3600 W. Vegas Drive. Burial will be private.

George Helm

George Helm, 72, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born July 7, 1931, in Middletown, N.Y. A resident for four years, he was a retired Navy chief petty officer and Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, a member of the Boulder City Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Barbara Geisenhimer of Middletown, N.Y., Terry Helm of Wurtsboro, N.Y., and Brenda Medina of Henderson; three sons, Mark Helm of Landson, S.C., and Jim Hawkins and Larry Hawkins, both of Rochester, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be 10:40 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Jean Leah Horning

Jean Leah Horning, 62, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Elrama, Pa. A resident for five years, she was a retired owner-operator of an accounting firm.

She is survived by one daughter, Darla Jean Hepburn of Dana Beach, Fla.; one sister, Terry L. Miller, and an aunt, Grace Burke, both of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be in Florida. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Janis D. Kopsa

Janis D. Kopsa, 65, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care center. He was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Kansas. A resident for 20 years, he was a civil engineer for the Defense Department, an Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion and the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Jeff; eight daughters, Teresa, Maria, Tempi, Debra, Kathy, Cindy, Nancy and Lee; one sister, Maureen; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Vivian M. Maxwell

Vivian M. Maxwell, 75, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. A retired electronics engineering technician, she was born May 23, 1928, in Zanesville, Ohio.

She is survived by three daughters, Roxanne Willis of Las Vegas, Lauren Nixon of Westminster, Calif., and Lynnette Friedman of Palmdale, Calif.

Micki Morra

Micki Morra, 79, of Henderson died Sept. 5 in Henderson. She was born Nov. 11, 1923, in New York. A resident for 35 years, she was a cocktail waitress.

She is survived by one son, Russell Battacavoli; one daughter, Dale Ann Cavoli Holmes; one brother, Ralph Morra; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Daniel Lewis Orr Sr.

Daniel Lewis Orr Sr., 78, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born May 8, 1925, in Williams, Ariz. A resident for 12 years, he was a hydraulic engineer, a World War II and Korean War Air Force veteran, a member of the Eagle Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel L. Orr II of Las Vegas and James Orr of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one daughter, Deborah Alice Sloan of Petaluma, Calif.; one brother, Rayburn Orr of Arizona; one sister, Roberta Calhoon of Wyoming; and nine grandchildren.

Melvin Parker

Melvin Parker, 73, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Minnesota. A resident for 24 years, he was a retired police officer, an Army Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Verna Loyd of Henderson; two sons, Rudy Parker of Henderson and Art Parker of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Graveside services will follow at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Arthur 'Ray' Rierson

Arthur "Ray" Rierson, 72, of Las Vegas died Sept. 9 in a local hospice. He was born June 6, 1931, in Belmond, Iowa. A resident for seven years, he was a retired photo engraver and a member of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club.

He is survived by one sister, Carol Gaston of Waverly, Iowa; one brother, Ronald Rierson, and his companion, Alika Borge, both of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

Geraldine Shuart

Geraldine Shuart, 68, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A saleswoman, she was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Brockton, Mass.

She is survived by one son, Robert A. Shuart of Mesa, Ariz.; and two daughters, Cynthia Gorman and Lauria Cross, both of Chandler, Ariz.

Jane G. Smith

Jane G. Smith, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. A retired computer programmer, she was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Naugatuck, Conn.

She is survived by two daughters, Bette Jane 'Mikey' Havlick of Las Vegas and Nancy Jenks of Cupertino, Calif.; and one son, Robert J. Smith III of Mystic, Conn.

Julie Denise Smith

Julie Denise Smith, 34, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born June 6, 1969, in Atlanta. A resident for five years, she was an office manager for a housing development.

She is survived by her fiance, Todd Conn of Las Vegas; her mother, Sandra C. Smith, and one sister, Heather Smith, both of Belmont, N.C.; her grandmother, Alidean Carter; and her great-grandmother, Stella Leggett, both of Hiram, Ga.

RoseMary 'Gibbs' Standford

RoseMary "Gibbs" Standford, 76, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born May 15, 1927, in Louisiana. A resident for 37 years, she was a pantry shelver in a grocery store and a volunteer for Lied's Senior Center.

She is survived by three sons, James Gibbs, Joseph Gibbs and Leroy Gibbs; four daughters, Sylvia Bowles, Christine Holder, Gertrude Thomas and Eileen Gibbs; three brothers, W. Floyd Lee, James Artis Lee and Leamon Lee; one sister, Bobbie Bynum; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until an 11 a.m. memorial service Friday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Violet Mae Strain

Violet Mae Strain, 72, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Eagle Rock, Pa. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired salad bar maid from the Skyline Casino.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Hankey and Nancy Green, both of Henderson; two sons, George Strain and Rick Strain; her mother, Dorothy Kennedy of Pennsylvania; two sisters; one brother; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Marie Frieda Swadick

Marie Frieda Swadick, 92, of Henderson died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born July 3, 1911, in Clinton, Ind. A resident for one year, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, George Swadick of Marquette, Mich., and Gerald Swadick of Las Vegas; one daughter, Betty Nygard of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5 p.m. until a 7 p.m. service Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be private.

Alfred Gordon Swanberg

Alfred Gordon Swanberg, 68, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local care center. He was born July 8, 1935, in Nome, Alaska. A resident for 10 years, he was a highway construction worker, a Navy veteran, a retired member of Local 302 and a member of the Alaska Yukon Pioneers.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Slack-Swanberg; three sons, Gordon Nels Swanberg, Eric Joseph Swanberg and Daniel Jay Swanberg; two daughters, Kelly Denise and Deby Jeannette; three sisters, Lois Swanberg, Mary Jo Gawley and Diane Peterson; and one grandchild.

Donald J. Taylor

Donald J. Taylor, 56, of Henderson died Saturday in Henderson. He was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Green Bay, Wis. A resident for 11 years, he was a truck driver and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by one son, Todd Taylor of California; his mother, Marie D. Taylor of Henderson; two sisters, Donna Aaberg of Florida and Patricia Fiumani of Henderson; and one grandchild.

Saundra J. Taylor, 59, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. A retired floral designer, she was born March 9, 1944, in Detroit.

She is survived by her mother, Alice J. Johnson; and two sisters, Alora Kenerly of Las Vegas and Alicia Rodriguez of Los Angeles.

John C. Tomczak

John C. Tomczak, 51, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 20, 1951, in Illinois. A resident for 25 years, he was a home inspector.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; one son, John Fierros-Tomczak, and two daughters, Tiffany Fierros-Tomczak and Trista Fierros-Tomczak, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Al Tomczak of Henderson; and one grandchild.

William Tripp

William Tripp, 75, of Henderson died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Inglewood, Calif. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired transportation manager and a Vietnam War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; four daughters, Margaret Jackson of Edmond, Okla., Adrian Cowan of Pell City, Ala., Theresa Summers of Rincon, Ga., and Michelle Allis of Burlington, Ky.; two sons, William Tripp of Tucson and Anthony Tripp of Las Vegas; one sister, Beverly Scott of Kalispel, Mont.; and 10 grandchildren.

Coy Wallace Woodall

Coy Wallace Woodall, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Alabama. A resident for 23 years, he was a maintenance worker at a grocery store.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; three daughters, Robin, Lisa and Patty; three sisters, Nellie, Dee and Jeannette; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
