Sun photographer Sam Morris won a 2007 National Headliner Award for a sports photograph of an ultimate sports fighter, bruised by combat, comforting his distraught daughters in the ring after a bout. Headliner awards are among the oldest journalism contests, recognizing photographers, writers, artists and others. Morris earned second place in the sports photography category. The photo had already won awards in contests for the international Picture of the Year and the Society of News Design.
