If you like hot, dry weather with sunny skies, you'll love the weekend's weather. But some storms could roll in by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today's temperatures will climb to a high of 109 degrees, with mostly sunny skies, the weather service says. That's not quite as high as Friday, which hit 110 degrees about 4 p.m. at McCarran International Airport.

Sunday won't be quite as hot, with the high climbing to near 107 degrees. The weather service says thunderstorms will start expanding slightly into southern Nevada and far southeast California Sunday.

Then thunderstorm coverage will increase Monday and Tuesday, with some potential for a few of the strongest storms to create a threat of flash floods, the weather service says.

According to the weather service's records released this morning, July 2008 was the sixth warmest July on record in Las Vegas. The average overall temperature for last month was 93.7 degrees.

The warmest July ever was in 2007, when the average overall temperature was 95.4 degrees.

July's average high temperature was 104.8 degrees and the average low was 82.5 degrees.

There were six thunderstorm days during the month. While there were isolated downpours in some areas those days, creating some street flooding, the official rainfall for the month, recorded at McCarran, was 0.08 inches. That was 0.36 inches below average for the month.

The big rain date for the month was on July 10, when extensive thunderstorms were recorded throughout the Mohave Desert. The weather service says radar indicated as much as 0.75 of an inch of rain fell that day near Las Vegas.
