Man injured when struck by car while crossing street

Thu, Aug 7, 2008 (7:58 p.m.)

A Las Vegas man was injured when a car hit him this afternoon while he was trying to cross a busy street in the northwest part of the city, according to Metro police.

Raymond Huling, 50, is suffering from serious injuries this evening at the University Medical Center trauma unit, police said.

Officers said the accident occurred about 3:58 p.m. on North Jones Boulevard just north of West Chelsea Circle.

At that time, a 2004 Chevy Cavalier driven by Barbara Gracey, 50, Las Vegas, was traveling north on Jones in the left lane when Huling crossed the street from the west to the east, officers said.

The pedestrian, who was not in a marked crosswalk, had stopped in the center two-way turn lane and was standing there when the driver saw him, officers said. As the car approached, the pedestrian started to run east into the vehicle's path and was struck by the front of the car, police said.

Officers said the accident is under investigation.
