Roadwork for airport power delayed

Clark County officials said roadwork on Eastern Avenue and Warm Springs Road that was planned to start during mid-November has been postponed until after the first of the year.

The change of plans on the start date was made so that the construction will not cause disruption to drivers entering or exiting "The Gift of Lights" at Sunset Park or cause an increase in traffic in that area while the event is ongoing. The drive-through holiday lights show closes Jan. 4.

The work is being done to improve the effectiveness of the existing power infrastructure serving McCarran International Airport and other nearby users as determined by NV Energy, said airport spokesman Chris Jones.

"The improved utility infrastructure will eventually help power McCarran's new Terminal 3, now under construction near Russell Road and Maryland Parkway," Jones said.

Clark County Traffic Safety Coordinator Kevin Pratt said that once the county realized the November start date may cause a conflict, it worked with Harbor Company, the contractor in charge of the project, to devise an alternate plan.
