Woman injured in mobile home fire

An unidentified woman suffered serious burn injuries after a mobile home fire at 830 North Lamb Boulevard, Lot 84 Friday night, authorities said today.

According to Metro Police, the woman’s husband made the 911 call and said she had dropped a cigarette and it started a fire. Tim Szymanski, Metro's public information officer, said that investigators found the injuries were caused by careless smoking after the use of the medical oxygen.

“Oxygen is an accelerator … it enriches clothing and will make is burn faster than if the oxygen were not present,” Szymanski said.

The woman sustained serious burns to her hair, head and upper body and was transported to the hospital; the severity of her injuries prevented her from answering questions when investigators tried to talk to her at the hospital.

The house sustained only minimal damage to the bed, which Szymanski said is lucky because the flames could have traveled back to the tank and resulted in an explosion.
