Enterprise Advisory Board approves casino

County Zoning Commission to consider proposal in January

Plans for a 300-room hotel-casino on the northwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Arby Avenue were approved by the Enterprise Town Advisory Board Dec. 10.

The application for the project was scheduled to be heard and decided upon by the Clark County Zoning Commission Dec. 17. But due to a change in scheduling, it is now scheduled to be heard Jan. 21.

The vacant property, which is near the intersection of Interstates 215 and 15, is owned by the developer, Chip Johnson, and members of his family.

Johnson said while his family real estate business has not previously developed any casinos, it has participated in commercial and industrial developments.

While Johnson said it's too early in the process to give a projected cost, he said financing is currently being sought.

A start date on construction is uncertain, but Johnson said it may begin within the next 24 to 30 months.

Plans for the project depict 75,000 square feet of casino space, restaurants, a 750-seat showroom, a night club and convention space.

The height of the planned hotel tower is expected to be 110 feet, although attorney Greg Borgel, who represented Johnson at the Enterprise Town Advisory Board meeting, said that height may be adjusted should the Federal Aviation Administration require the building to be shorter because of the project's proximity to McCarran International Airport.

The design of the building is planned to feature contemporary exterior materials of stone veneer and painted concrete.

Johnson said the proposed project is in a prime location because of its frontage to the Las Vegas Strip and I-15.
