So Gov. Jim Gibbons chooses Cinco de Mayo, of all days, to propose an amnesty plan. The governor supports amnesty! The man who attacked Dina Titus — and it was thoroughly disingenuous — for supporting driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants supports amnesty. And he even has a plan. The headlines today should say: “Governor supports amnesty plan.” As if he doesn’t have enough problems. What’s that you say? The amnesty plan he announced is for businesses that owe back taxes, thus creating a different class of folks who get breaks from the government and telling all timely business tax filers that their good deeds mean nothing? And Gibbons says he did it to help the budget crisis, even though it’s a pittance? Ah. Now it makes sense.
