From the likes of the Giving Tree to All That Jazz, five themed trees and 40 wreaths are decking the halls of the Paseo Verde Library, each handmade by members of Friends of Henderson Libraries.

The trees and wreaths will be on display until Dec. 5 as part of the 5th Annual Library Tree Lane, a fundraiser to benefit the Henderson libraries.

Some of the five trees were decorated by professionals, and each will be donated to a nonprofit organization, such as The Salvation Army, HopeLink Family Resource Center and Safe Nest.

Proceeds from the event will go toward buying books for the young people's library at Green Valley Library after it's transferred to Henderson in January.

The Green Valley Library is currently part of the Las Vegas Clark County Library District, and the books there will move to Clark County's new Centennial library.

Patrons are also being encouraged to give $20 to buy a book for the library as a gift to friends for the holidays. A gift card will be provided.

On Dec. 5, a gala will be held, and several gift baskets will be auctioned off. Those who can't attend the gala can still get involved in last-chance auctions, which include anything that didn't fit in a basket.

The group hopes to raise $20,000 this year, Laura Jane Spina, vice president of Friends of the Library, said.

This is the second year the trees will be donated to other groups. Trees have always been part of the festivities, with the intent of auctioning them off. Everyone enjoyed looking, but no one wanted to buy until last year, when one person bought three trees and donated them to charity, Spina said.

"We love the idea of giving it to a nonprofit like the gentleman did," she said. "He really inspired us."

There are also wreaths available for purchase, ranging $35 to $50 each.
