Boulder City turned pink Friday to fight breast cancer.

More than 500 pink ribbons and 100 pink signs went up along Nevada Way, turning Clean, Green Boulder City into what organizers called "passionately pink" for the day.

Passionately Pink for the Cure is an awareness and fundraising program that encourages people to wear pink and make donations of $5 or more to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Jill Lagan was determined to bring the movement to Boulder City after she met with a representative from Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No other city in Nevada has sponsored the event, she said.

"I thought, Boulder City is going to be the town where people come together to make this happen," she said.

Members of Boulder City High School group Teenagers Actively Contributing helped hang the ribbons and signs throughout town.

At noon, everybody involved in the effort met at city hall for a group picture.

"Everybody that is here today in some way, shape or form has in some way been touched by breast cancer," Lagan said.

By the end of the day, more than $1,320 had been raised for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
