Harrah’s Golf looks into building a warehouse at Cascata

Cascata Golf Course will ask the City Council next week for permission to build a warehouse next to the course and to reduce its yearly lease payment.

The undeveloped land south of the course, which borders U.S. 93, is under a lease with Harrah's Golf, which operates Cascata, City Manager Vicki Mayes said. The lease on the city-owned land runs through 2038, with three options of 10 years each beyond that.

The company has proposed changing its contract to allow it to build a distribution center and warehousing there instead of a golf course, Mayes said.

She said she hadn't discussed a reduction in lease payments with the company, and that if the council were to approve the contract change, the city should reappraise the land to see if the lease should be more expensive.

There are no immediate plans to build on the site, Harrah's Entertainment spokeswoman Jacqueline Peterson said.

"Nothing is really changing out there," she said. "We just wanted to see if we could have the option of putting warehouses out there."

MGM Mirage planned two golf courses on the property that holds Cascata and the proposed distribution site, but sold them to Caesars Entertainment Inc. in 2000 after MGM Grand Inc. bought Mirage Resorts, creating MGM Mirage.

Harrah's Entertainment acquired the golf course when it bought Caesars Entertainment in 2005.
