Tim Clifford has dropped out of the running for City Council.

Clifford, a business consultant and general contractor, said he made the decision Tuesday because of personal and professional issues in his career and in Boulder City.

Clifford, 48, has lived in Boulder City for three years and said business obligations in California would keep him from being as efficient as possible on the council.

Nine candidates remain in the race for the April 7 primary election. Clifford's name will still appear on the ballot.

The primary will pare candidates to four for the June municipal election to fill the seats of Councilwoman Andrea Anderson, who is retiring, and Councilman Mike Pacini, who cannot run again because of term limits.

Those still running are Matt DiTeresa, an operating engineer; Chris Gatlin, who owns a local painting and trailer rental business; retired Boulder City Library Director Duncan McCoy; Anthony Pakula, who retired from Hoover Dam; Jim Reed, a retired Boulder City Police officer; Joe Roché, who runs a recycling business; Planning Commissioner John Schleppegrell; former City Councilman Bill Smith; and Cam Walker, a project development director.

Cassie Tomlin can be reached at 948-2073 or [email protected].
