Pedestrian critically injured in two-vehicle incident

A pedestrian was critically injured Saturday evening when she was struck by a vehicle in the eastern Las Vegas Valley.

Metro Police responded at 5:40 p.m. to the collision at Pecos Road and Rochelle Avenue. That location is just south of the intersection of Pecos and Flamingo Road.

Authorities said a 2008 Chrysler van was northbound on Pecos in the left travel lane when the driver noticed a pedestrian entering his path crossing west to east outside a crosswalk. The driver, Eli Lalo, 42, of Miami, swerved into the center northbound lane to avoid striking the pedestrian, but collided with a 2000 Chrysler Concorde sedan, police said.

The Concorde's driver wasn't able to avoid striking the pedestrian. The woman was taken to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Lalo and a passenger, as well as the driver of the Concorde, identified as Mariana Ortega-Dominguez, 31, of Las Vegas, weren't injured.

Authorities weren't releasing the victim's name Saturday night.
