NLV police issue 142 citations during enforcement

North Las Vegas police issued 142 tickets during beefed up enforcement Jan. 23 intended to keep pedestrians safe, authorities said today.

Four officers with the department's traffic unit worked nine hours to target areas with a high number of pedestrians, school zones and traffic accidents. The primary violation was running a red light, police said.

Other violations included speeding, seatbelt violations, jaywalking and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The average fine was $300.

The enforcement was funded through a traffic safety pedestrian grant through the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
