Sexual assault suspect

Metro Police detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a man they say is responsible for a kidnapping and sexual assault Sunday in Las Vegas.

Late Sunday night the man identified himself as a police officer, showing a woman a badge that indicated he was a vice detective, officers with the department's Sexual Assault Section said today. The woman complied with the man's commands and was taken to an undisclosed area, where the alleged sexual assault took place, police said.

The incident occurred in the area of Tropicana Avenue and Wynn Boulevard, police said. Authorities said the man told the woman he had a gun.

The man is described as in his 30s, tall, heavy set, wearing a white shirt, dark or blue pants, short or crew-cut type hairstyle, brown hair and wearing a beige or tan sports coat or jacket. He was driving a gold or similar color four-door sedan, police said.

Anyone who witnessed an individual matching the man's description or who may recognize this man, or anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to call the Sexual Assault Unit at (702) 828-3421. Detective Gerald Bello is the lead investigator in this case. If a person wishes to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers or Secret Witness at (702) 385-5555.
