A man charged in the cold case murder and sexual assault of then-7-year-old Diana Hernandez was denied bail on Wednesday.

Police arrested and charged 36-year-old Greg Wallen Jr., with one count of murder and one count of sexual assault with a victim under 14 years old, according to Clark County Detention records.

Wallen is a suspect in the death and sexual assault of Hernandez, who disappeared on April 2, 1994, after a shopping trip with her mother and sisters, including a twin, while her mother stopped in the office of her apartment complex to pay rent.

A total of nine Metro Police detectives revisited the case over the 15 years, four of them retiring and one dying before Wallen was captured. He was arrested Monday evening without incident.

As a result of better scientific tests, crime investigators linked Wallen to the girl through a partial fingerprint on the box that she was placed in before being dumped into a trash bin at 3955 Algonquin Ave., near Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway, where Diana lived.
