Letter to the Editor:

Why aren’t other people’s contracts sacred?

Like most of the country, I, too, am outraged by AIG’s executive bonuses. But, also as important, I am outraged as to why it’s OK to break the contracts of union autoworkers or ask teachers to agree to salary freezes or reductions, etc., but AIG executives’ contractual bonuses are untouchable.

Even sadder for me is that Washington politicians cannot stop their partisan fighting even long enough to work together for the good of the country. During my military career, we were guided by the following Air Force core values: integrity first; service before self; and excellence in all we do. Is it too much to ask that our elected officials do the same?

And as long as I’m asking questions, could someone explain to me why members of Congress aren’t subject to term limits?
