Clark County School District Police are saying that a 7-year-old boy fired a handgun at a school bus stop this morning in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

Police said the boy fired the gun while waiting for a bus at the stop.

The boy, along with another 7-year-old, were going to Ries Elementary School, 9805 Lindell Road, shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday when one of the youngsters fired the 9mm handgun.

The round struck an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street, police said.

Since both boys are 7 they cannot be arrested by law, Capt. James Ketsa of the school police force said. However, police will present evidence and findings from their investigation to the District Attorney's Office, he said. Children age 8 years and older can be detained for an offense.

It will be up to the district attorney to decide if some action can be taken against the children or their parents, Ketsa said.

The incident is under investigation and police have not determined where the boy got the gun, Ketsa said.
