Man who crashed into block wall identified

A 33-year-old man who was fatally injured after a single-car crash about 8:37 p.m. Friday in the northwestern valley has been identified as Isaac Hawkins of Las Vegas.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said Hawkins died of blunt force trauma injuries to the abdomen.

The crash occurred on Lake Mead Boulevard west of Marion Drive, Metro Police said. As the 2006 Dodge Stratus tried to pass another vehicle, the driver lost control and began to rotate his car across the center and right westbound lanes of Lake Mead, police said. The Dodge Stratus left Lake Mead on the north side and hit a concrete block wall before rolling onto the driver's side, police said.

Hawkins was taken to University Medical Center, where he died before 2 a.m. Saturday of his injuries.

Police said it appears speed is the factor in the crash. This is the 72nd fatal traffic accident in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
