The Boulder City municipal pool is tentatively scheduled to reopen Oct. 19 after almost two months of renovation.

The pool closed Aug. 22 for major repairs that included replastering the main pool, resealing the surge trenches, which capture water that splashes over the side, and replacing the coping stones, which are the round-edged, slotted borders along the pool’s edge that allow the water to run into the surge trenches.

“Provided no unforeseen circumstances arise, we will reopen and start all pool programs the week of Oct. 19,” city aquatics coordinator Sheri O’Berto said.

The work is progressing well after getting a slow start, O’Berto said. The work originally was going to be done in June, but the coping stones did not arrive, so it was delayed until August.

Now, the coping stones on the main pool are nearly all installed and just need grout, O’Berto said.

The bubble that allows the pool to be used during the winter will go up Oct. 6, after which the new plaster will be applied on the main pool, O’Berto said.

The aquatics staff will begin taking reservations for classes and other programs on Oct. 1, after they have given residents on waiting lists a chance to sign up first, she said.

A “Hard Hat Night” is being planned to allow the public to tour the pool, learn about the fall programs and ask questions, she said. A date and time have not yet been set.

“I think the public will appreciate the closure when they see the aesthetic improvements and benefit from the safety and comfort aspects of the renovated pool,” she said.

The main pool hours once it reopens will be Monday through Thursday, 6:30 to 10 a.m. adult lap swim, noon to 1:30 p.m. open swim and 5:15 to 7:30 p.m., open swim; Friday, 6:30 to 9 a.m. adult lap swim, 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. open swim; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., open swim. The pool will remain closed on Sundays. The diving and kiddie pools remain closed during the winter.

The racquetball court hours next door and office hours will be extended as of the same date, she said. They will be Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 2 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Sundays.
