Dear readers,

Welcome to our fourth edition of “Health Care Headliners.” It’s our look at a few of the local people who have made an important impact on the health care industry.

This year, we’ve again identified 11 areas in health care and acknowledged a pioneer in each. The names came from nominations that we accepted in the months leading up to the section as well as from research by some of our writers and editors.

The result: some great stories about some truly outstanding people. Several are doctors, some are volunteers, professors and emergency medical technicians, and we even have a husband and wife team that started a free clinic for adults who can’t afford health care. These are people who have truly made a great difference in our community.

As Southern Nevada grows, so does the impact of health care. The sheer growth locally in the medical field is astounding. Additionally, there are scores of “quick-care” facilities, licensed nursing homes and private psychiatric centers.

Educational facilities have also grown by leaps and bounds too. They are educating students and placing them locally.

We want to especially thank our presenting sponsor this year, Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. It hosted – in the beautiful Andalusian Garden – this year’s soiree where the award winners were honored.
