Shooting

A security guard was killed in a shooting Sunday night while patrolling a community center in Las Vegas, Metro Police said Monday.

Metro spokesman Jay Rivera said the shooting occurred about 11:25 p.m. Sunday at the Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Avenue, which is near Comstock Drive.

Authorities said they found the body of a uniformed security officer on the east side of the community center. Police said the officer died from an unknown number of gunshot wounds.

Detectives said a preliminary investigation indicates that three black men confronted the officer near the southeast corner of the building and fired several shots at him. The suspects then fled on foot in an eastbound direction, authorities said. It is unknown whether the shooting was gang-related.

Police said the suspects were wearing dark clothing, and at least one was wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the officer following notification of family members.
