Highs to be in mid 80s for Las Vegas area

Strong winds moving in Tuesday as powerful storm approaches

Las Vegas will get another dose of warm weather in the mid 80s, along with mostly sunny skies today.

A weak storm system will pass to the south today, but local temperatures will continue to stay several degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service.

Then a powerful storm moving into northern California will bring strong winds on Tuesday, followed by much cooler temperatures and chances for valley rain and mountain snow Wednesday through Thursday, forecasters said.

Temperatures are expected to rebound late in the week under a dry northwest flow, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 63 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 55 degrees. The record low was 35 degrees, set in 1968.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 59 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 62 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 63 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 73 degrees by 9 a.m., to 81 degrees by noon and reach a high of 84 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 79 degrees and the record high was 98 degrees, set in 1938.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 83 degrees by 6 p.m., to 77 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 72 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 63 degrees and Tuesday's afternoon high will climb to 83 degrees, they said.
