Nevadans quick to line up for appliance rebates

CARSON CITY – Nevadans were quick to line up this weekend for rebates of up to $200 for the purchase of an energy efficient appliance.

The state Office of Energy says that 51 percent of the available $2.3 million was reserved for those who buy Energy Star clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers and refrigerators.

Those who applied for the rebates have two weeks to shop around for their appliances and four weeks to fill out and return the required paperwork.

Some Nevadans were on the telephone shortly after midnight on Friday to reserve their rebate.

The federally financed program provides $150 rebates for clothes washers and freezers; $100 for dishwashers and $200 for refrigerators.

The office estimates that 14,700 old appliances will be replaced and there will be a savings of 1.3 million kilowatt hours and 40.4 million gallons of water.
