Part of Las Vegas Boulevard downtown to close for bridge project

Road closure

A downtown section of Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed for two nights this week and five nights next week while a pedestrian bridge is built.

The thoroughfare will be closed between Washington Avenue and Cashman Center Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday night and nightly between Sunday and Dec. 23.

Crews will be installing a new pedestrian bridge near the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.

The bridge is one of three being built in Las Vegas as part of a $4.7 million trail project. The other two bridges were built for the Lone Mountain Trail over Cheyenne Avenue and Lake Mead Boulevard.

The project is funded by money from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which allows funds from the sale of Bureau of Land Management land to be used for park and trail projects.

The contractor is Martin-Harris Construction. Parsons Engineering is performing construction management.
