About Alissa Kelly: At only 32, Alissa Kelly is a partner and chief operating officer at a firm that focuses on public relations without an advertising base. Known to many locally as the rock ’n’ roll PR firm, Kelly deals with a variety of clients who shape the city’s entertainment and hospitality industries. In a time where businesses are forced into layoffs and cutbacks, Kelly has adjusted the company’s business model to remain successful in a down economy. She has been able to retain and bring new clients in, aiming to show the value in the company’s services. Kelly is the youngest member on the board of directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She has introduced new relationships to the charity, including one with high-end clothing designer Tory Burch. Quarterly events are held at Burch’s store at Palazzo with a portion of the sales benefiting JDRF. She also participates in the planning, promotion and execution of the foundation’s annual events such as the Walk to Cure Diabetes and its Spring Gala.
The most important issue facing the valley: I think education in our city is going downhill fast. When I was growing up – I’m a native – I learned so much in school and there was a push from faculty for me to stay active in my education and the arts. The respect for the school system seems to have disappeared, classes are overfilled and arts programs are being cut left and right. There’s so much money in this town, I just can’t believe its happening.
My mentor and why: It sounds so cliché, but my mom taught me so much about being the ultimate multi-tasker – from working hard and being a good person to taking care of the family and mowing the lawn. She was superwoman and I look to her “I can do it” attitude to get me through any hurdles.
Favorite Web site: www.pandora.com – it’s great for discovering new artists
Hobbies: I love spend time with my family and friends, listen to music, run for exercise and shop (if that counts as a hobby because I’m pretty good at it)!
Fantasy job: A rock star! I can’t sing, nor do I play any instruments, so I like to surround myself with talented musicians. I’m more than happy to be behind the scenes working with the artists, since no one in their right mind would let me on stage.
One-word description of self: Passionate
