Slew of candidates have already filed for judgeships

Numerous incumbents were among the 32 candidates who filed Monday to compete for judicial positions that will be contested in Clark County this year.

Incumbents who took advantage of the first day of filing included Family Division Judges Bill Voy in Department A, Gloria Sanchez in Department B, Steve Jones in Department C, Chuck Hoskin in Department E, and Bill Gonzalez in Department F.

Other incumbents who filed with the county Election Department for the 2010 election were Las Vegas Township Justices of the Peace Joseph S. Sciscento in Department 2, Melissa Saragosa in Department 4, Joe Bonaventure in Department 9 and Melanie Andress-Tobiasson in Department 10. Fellow incumbent Searchlight Township Justice of the Peace Stanton B. Colton also filed.

Robert Teuton, a former Family Division judge in Department D who was ordered by the Nevada Supreme Court to vacate the seat last year, filed to regain that office. He had been appointed by Gov. Jim Gibbons to that seat but had been removed in November because the appointment had expired.

Gibbons is now considering Teuton and Las Vegas attorney Michele Mercer to fill the vacancy until the upcoming election.

They included District Court candidates Bruce L. Gale and Gloria Sturman in Department 26, nancy Allf in Department 27, Jack Howard and Ron Israel in Department 28, Susan Scann in Department 29, Michael D. Davidson, Patricia "Trish" Palm and Jerry A. Wise in Department 30, Phil Dabney, Joanna Kishner and Josh Kunis in Department 31, and Rob Bare and Donn Ianuzi in Department 32.

Vincent Ochoa in Family Division Department S and Terrance Marren and Gayle Nathan in Family Division Department T are also vying for newly-created seats.

So, too, are Las Vegas Township Justice of the Peace candidates Suzan Baucum and Jonathan Schulman in Department 13 and Conrad Hafen and Bernie Zadrowski in Department 14.

Filing for judicial positions in the county runs through Friday, Jan. 15.

The primary election will be held on June 8 and the general election will occur in November.

Early voting for the 2010 primary election will be held from May 22 through June 4, with the primary following on June 8. The general election will be in November.
